Major investment from the Quebec government in the network of INS Québec training centres

Montreal, September 21, 2017 – Quebec high-performance and next-generation athletes will be able to count on increased support from the network of the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) thanks to a $2 million investment from the Quebec Government. The eight regional multi-sport training centres will share $1.5 million, while a $500,000 envelope will fund the 17 single-sport training centres. It was Mr. Marc Carrière, member of Chapleau and parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sport, Mr. Sébastien Proulx, that confirmed, on behalf of the Minister, the new investments during an event that highlighted the 20th anniversary of the INS Québec.

For Mr. Tom Quinn, president of the INS Québec Board of Directors: “The Government of Quebec’s investment is an eloquent recognition of the relevance and importance of our network in supporting both high-performance and next-generation athletes. We are now in a position to fully update our intervention model since we are being provided with the means to put in place all the elements that we had envisioned during the creation of the Institute.”

Particularly in remote areas, more than 2 000 next-generation athletes will be able to benefit from an increase and improvement in training as well as sports science and sports-medicine services provided by regional multi-sport training centres. As for single-sport training centres, the funds will enable INS Québec to provide more discipline in the training of their athletes and the improvement of their facilities.
