Pierre Langlois, a patron of sport in Quebec, has died

Montreal, July 24, 2015 – It is with great sadness and shock that we have learned of the death of Pierre Langlois. Pierre died on July 14, 2015 following a short battle with cancer.

In 2006, Pierre joined the team at the CNMM (Centre national multisport-Montréal) in order to oversee setup of the CÉSAQ (Centre d’excellence des sports aquatiques du Québec). This nationwide, high performance programme brought together the four aquatic sports (synchronized swimming, swimming, diving and water polo) at the Olympic Park Sports Centre. From 2009 to 2013, Pierre Langlois held the position of operations director at CNMM, and from 2012 he held the same position at INS Québec (Institut national du sport du Québec ).

As operations director, Pierre played an extremely important role at every stage of development and planning of the INS Québec Complex, which opened its doors to athletes in July 2014. Furthermore, during winter 2012 Pierre worked on the design for the INS logo that is still in use today. He was then responsible for coordinating the INS marketing and communication campaign during its rebranding.

During his career, Pierre worked with many sports organizations, and was manager of Water-polo Québec, the Lifesaving Society and Special Olympics Québec. Pierre also took part in many sports, including water polo, swimming and rowing.

“Pierre was an important figure in the development and founding of CESAQ in 2007. He was then very involved in the creation of the new INS Québec Complex, which we believe is the most important investment the Quebec government has made in high performance sport in Quebec since the 1976 Olympic Games. There is a part of him in our Complex”, emphasizes Marc Gélinas, President and CEO.

The funeral will take place on August 8 at the Alfred Dallaire funeral home at 2645 Henri-Bourassa Est.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Antoinette and their daughter Isabelle.
