Join the board of directors of a leading organization in elite sports in Quebec. INS Québec is seeking board members eager to actively contribute to strategic, rigorous, and modern governance.

About INS Québec

The Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) embodies the “genius behind performance.” By leveraging science, innovation, and technology, the Institute offers cutting-edge solutions supported by experts and a vast network of partners to enable athletes training in Quebec to continually progress and excel on the international stage, and contributes to the training and professional development of coaches and professionals in elite and youth sports.

INS Québec and its network support more than 550 elite athletes, nearly 2,000 next-generation athletes, and approximately 900 coaches. The Institute offers scientific, medical, and professional services and operates province-wide through eight regional multisport training centers, twenty-six single-sport training centers, and its 150,000-square-foot Olympic Park Complex, which hosts ten high-performance training groups.

The Institute is supported by the Ministry of Education, Sport Canada, Own the Podium, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Olympic Foundation, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and the Coaching Association of Canada, as well as by private-sector partners such as Sports Experts and Mondo.

Role of the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides strategic governance for the organization and is responsible for:

  • Defining the vision, mission, and strategic directions
  • Adopting the budget and policies and overseeing financial management
  • Supervising and evaluating the President and CEO
Composition

The Board of Directors consists of eleven (11) volunteer directors elected for their expertise and experience:

  • A retired athlete
  • A retired coach
  • Nine (9) directors from various professional backgrounds

The Board values equity, diversity, and inclusion and aims for a composition that is representative of the populations served by INS Québec. To this end, at least four positions will be held by women and four by men.

Committees

The Board of Directors is supported by four (4) standing committees:

  • Governance Committee
  • Human Resources Committee
  • Audit and Risk Management Committee
  • Funding and Revenue Generation Committee
Open Positions – 2026 Election
  • Four (4) independent directors
  • A retired coach residing in Quebec who has been a member of a Quebec or Canadian team for at least 5 years and has been retired for at least 5 years.

Excluded are individuals serving as directors, employees, or contractors of a National Sport Organization (NSO), a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO), or a sports organization with a mission complementary to that of the Institute.

Key Skills

Public Funding

In-depth understanding of public funding mechanisms (provincial and federal), including government frameworks and relations with government bodies. Ability to support the organization in securing, optimizing, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of its public funding.

Revenue Generation and Partnerships

Experience or expertise in revenue generation, including business partnerships, sponsorship, and philanthropy. Ability to support the board’s strategic direction aimed at diversifying revenue streams, creating value, and ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability.

Legal

Legal experience or expertise, including partnership agreements, service contracts, and intellectual property issues. Ability to support the board of directors in managing legal risks and the organization’s strategic direction.

Desired Profile
  • Relevant experience on a board of directors
  • Knowledge of elite-level sport and its ecosystem
  • Experience managing medium- or large-scale organizations
Commitment and Term

The term of office for directors is two (2) years, beginning in June 2026, and is renewable for up to a maximum of five (5) terms.

The commitment includes participation in four (4) annual board meetings, the annual general meeting, and at least one (1) standing committee. Approximately three (3) hours of preparation time per month should be allocated to adequately support the Board’s work.
