TRANSITION TO THE INS QUÉBEC SPORTS SCIENCES LEADERSHIP: FRANÇOIS BIEUZEN WILL TAKE THE LEAD FOLLOWING GUY THIBAULT’S RETIREMENT

The Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) today announced the beginning of a transition in the leadership of its Sports Sciences Service. In office since 2017, Guy Thibault, PhD, will retire after the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. Aiming for continuity, INS Quebec promoted François Bieuzen, PhD, who has been a member of the Institute’s Scientific Team since 2016. The combination of their work over the upcoming months will allow a smooth and orderly transition within its own team of experts as well as for the benefit of the athletes and organizations that collaborate with INS Québec. This period will also serve to strengthen relations with its university and scientific partners.

“Not only did Guy Thibault brilliantly fulfill his initial mandate, which was to ensure the redeployment of the Institute’s Sports Sciences Service, but his work went well beyond. By building a strong team of experts, he allowed INS Québec to assert its leadership on sports sciences,” says Yves Hamelin, Vice-President, Performance Services. “Since joining the team, François Bieuzen has distinguished himself by his understanding of the needs of the sports community and has shown his commitment to the athletes and teams who he works with. Bieuzen’s promotion will allow us to ensure the continuity of our services while still working on further innovation projects. ”

“Supporting the high-performance elite programs by working hand in hand with the staff of the Institute is extremely rewarding, but after four decades devoted to sports sciences, the time will have come to pass the baton after the 2022 Beijing Games. There is no doubt that François Bieuzen – a scientist recognized for his expertise and leadership – will be an excellent director of the Sports Sciences Service,” says Guy Thibault.

“I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to continue to develop the Sports Sciences Service as the head of an exceptional team of professionals. Our solid foundations, our dynamism and our expertise will allow us to continue our commitment to high-performance athletes while asserting ourselves among the leaders on the international scene,” says François Bieuzen.

Guy Thibault, PhD, Director, Sports Sciences

In addition to his role at INS Québec, Guy is an associate professor at the School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences of the Université de Montréal. Co-founder of “Savoir-Sport”, an online platform that provides scientific information in French for coaches working with high-performance athletes, he is considered an experienced coaching advisor and trainer. He writes training articles for a number of Québec and international magazines and often holds conferences on physical activity and health, as well as on high-performance athlete training.

François Bieuzen, PhD, Exercise Physiologist

Holder of a doctorate in the sciences of physical activity, François Bieuzen joined INS Québec in 2016, after 12 years at INSEP in France. A recovery specialist (sleep, recovery strategies and tools), he advises high-performance training group on fatigue management, training load and injury prevention initiatives. He also pursues research activities with various Canadian and foreign collaborators.
