INS Québec welcomes financial backing from the Québec government

INS QUÉBEC WELCOMES FINANCIAL BACKING FROM THE QUEBEC GOVERNMENT TO RECOGNIZE THE PROVINCE’S SPORTING EXCELLENCE AND PROMOTE PARTICIPATION IN SPORT

Quebec, March 10, 2020 — The Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) welcomes the announcement made by the Government of Quebec regarding the additional investment of $7 million over five years in recognition of Quebec’s sporting excellence. Now more than ever, Quebec’s high-performance and next-generation athletes, as well as their coaches and supporting medical, sports and scientific experts, will be able to take advantage of an improved environment that supports their development, progress and, ultimately, their performance on the Canadian and international scenes.

“With this investment, Quebec can maintain and even boost its leadership in Canada in terms of how high-level sport and athletes are supported,” said Gaëtan Robitaille, President and Chief Executive Officer of INS Québec. INS Québec possesses the necessary expertise and resources to support the government—in collaboration with partners from Quebec’s sporting community—in developing and updating initiatives that will stem from these new funds being injected into the system.” »

Athletes, coaches and stakeholders all need a safe and secure environment in order to develop both personally and in their sports. INS Québec underscores how significant an additional $2.5 million investment over five years will be in taking action against abuse and harassment in sport, while at the same time fostering better performance.

Infrastructure quality is also an important factor for the entire sporting community, no matter the level of practice. Injecting an additional $50 million over five years into the Sports and Physical Activity Development Fund for sports and recreational facilities in schools should have a substantial influence on the promotion of sport, athletic development and performance optimization.

With additional investment over the next five years aimed at bolstering the Policy on Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation ($20 million), supporting measures to get young people moving ($8.5 million), providing support for sport in schools ($8 million) and expanding the volunteer support program ($2.5 million), almost $100 million will be injected into Quebec’s sporting system. “This will ensure that the population of Quebec, and young people especially, are both more active and prouder of the athletes who represent us,” added Mr. Robitaille. »
