January 21, 2021

YVES HAMELIN APPOINTED INS QUÉBEC VICE-PRESIDENT, PERFORMANCE SERVICES

His advanced expertise for managing teams and change will be an asset to increase our leadership and even better serve the athletes and those who support them.

The President and CEO of the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec), Gaëtan Robitaille, is pleased to announce the appointment of Yves Hamelin as Vice-President, Performance Services. In addition to coordinating relations with the components of the INS Québec Network, Yves Hamelin will assume the leadership of the various performance services intended for high-performance and next generation athletes, including sport medicine and sport science services. He will also look after the Institut’s service offerings for coaches and support staff in terms of education and guidance. Mr. Hamelin will take office on February 15, 2021.

“Yves Hamelin is an experienced manager who knows the key players and operations of the high-performance sports system well and understands the needs and expectations of athletes and training groups,” said Gaëtan Robitaille, CEO of the INS Québec. As the Institut continues to refine its performance services, his ability to manage teams, particularly in times of change, will be an asset that will allow us to increase our leadership, particularly in sport science and sport medicine. We will be able to better serve high-performance athletes, those of the next generation as well as coaches and staff who support them, in association with INS Québec Network’s partners. “

“I am very much looking forward to starting my collaboration with the impressive team at INS Québec, said Yves Hamelin. This new mandate will allow me to contribute to the Institut’s vision, which is to be an essential performance partner for high-performance sport in Québec and Canada. I have long endorsed and supported the onboarding of the performance optimization team. I will therefore have the opportunity to add my experiences to that of the experts from INS Québec and its Network to support the athletes and those who support them.”

With many years of experience at all levels in the sports system, Yves Hamelin brings a wide range of competencies and skills specific to the sport community that will contribute to the INS Québec’s future. He was a Short-track Speed Skating Coach (from local to national level), then Director of High-Performance and National Short-track Programs at Speed Skating Canada for the Olympic Games in Vancouver (2010) and Sochi (2014). He was also Director of the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary where he managed and coached a multidisciplinary team related to short- and long-track programs and its operations, marketing, communications, events, technology as well as customer relations and business development. He then joined the Canadian Equestrian Sports Federation in 2019 where he was CEO when joining the INS Québec.
