INS QUÉBEC HAS SUPPORTED 80% OF THE ATHLETES FROM QUÉBEC* WHO WILL COMPETE AT THE TOKYO OLYMPICS

The Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) and the members of its Network are proud to have supported 72 athletes in their preparation for the Olympic Games in Tokyo from 16 different sports. This represents close to 80% of the 81* athletes from Québec or training in the province and close to 20% of the 370 athletes to represent Team Canada at Tokyo.

“During their Olympic preparation, these athletes were supported by many experts in sports science and sports medicine and were provided a daily training environment allowing them to constantly improve in order to excel on the international stage,” emphasizes Yves Hamelin, Vice-President, Performance Services at INS Québec. “I salute the commitment and professionalism of our experts who have demonstrated outstanding ingenuity and have shown a strong determination to allow athletes to continue their preparation in the most efficient and optimal way despite the impacts of the pandemic.”

8 experts from INS Québec in Tokyo

In addition to its affiliated athletes, INS Québec will also have eight of its experts onsite during the Tokyo Olympics Games, most of them being assigned to direct support to athletes. Here are the experts: Physiotherapists, Félix Croteau (Water Polo), Jean-Sébastien Rondeau (Diving) and Kathleen Smith (Artistic Swimming), Mental Performance Consultant, Véronique Richard (Water Polo), Lead Strength and Conditioning Trainer, Alain Delorme (Water Polo) and Exercise Physiologist, François Bieuzen (Boxing).

Advisors, High-Performance Sport, at the INS Québec, Caroline Truchon, will contribute as a support staff member for the Canadian Olympic Committee while Louise Kairns will hold the position of International Doping Control Officer.

85% of athletes supported by the COPSI Network

The Institut national du sport du Québec is a member of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSI Network). Comprising four institutes and three centres, this network supports high-performance athletes and coaches across Canada. Jointly, members of the COPSI Network has supported over 85% of Team Canada athletes who will take part in the Tokyo Olympics.

* INS Québec considers the “athletes from Québec” those who indicated Québec as birthplace, hometown or residence or who are affiliated to INS Québec which adds up to a total of 81 athletes. For its part, the Canadian Olympic Committee only considers the hometown of the athletes when it indicates 58 athletes from Québec.
